Who we are
Sudder is an app from Belgium. For privacy questions, email privacy@sudder.app.
In short
- No account and no sign-in.
- No Sudder server: we don’t receive or store anything you do in the app.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking code in the app.
- On this website, only anonymous visit statistics, without cookies and without storing anything on your device.
- Apple Intelligence runs on your device. What you type or import doesn’t leave your device.
- Syncing and sharing happen through your own iCloud at Apple.
What the app stores, and where
Your recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry and preferences (such as the number of people and your planning preferences) are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, Apple also stores them in your private iCloud database so they appear on your other devices. That data is protected the way Apple protects iCloud data. We have no access to it. Learn more in Apple’s iCloud data security overview.
Importing recipes
When you share a link with Sudder, the app fetches that web page directly from the website, just like Safari would. The website sees your IP address, as with any visit. The recipe photo is downloaded the same way. Text and photos you share are processed on your device.
Apple Intelligence
On supported devices, Sudder uses Apple Intelligence to recognize recipes, tag recipes (such as how much work a dish is) and understand your sentence when planning. Sudder only uses the language model that runs on your device. Nothing is sent to Sudder or any other server.
Permissions
- Photos: you pick a photo with the iOS photo picker. Sudder only receives the photo you choose, not access to your library.
- Reminders: only if you use “Add to Reminders”. Sudder uses that access only to create and update the grocery list.
- Notifications: nudges like “plan next week” are scheduled on your device. No server sends notifications. iCloud may use silent notifications to keep your devices in sync; those come from Apple.
- Timers: cooking timers use iOS AlarmKit and Live Activities, on your device.
- Siri and Spotlight: recipes are indexed in Spotlight on your device. What you ask Siri is processed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.
You can change any permission in the Settings app on your device.
Purchases
You buy Sudder Plus through the App Store. Apple handles the payment. We don’t receive your name, email address or payment details. The app checks with Apple, on your device, whether your subscription is active.
Analytics and crash reports
Sudder contains no analytics or tracking code. If you’ve chosen in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple shares anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with us through App Store Connect. You control this in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
This website
sudder.app uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. To understand how the website is used, we count visits with PostHog, on servers in the EU (Frankfurt). We see which pages are visited, which website you came from, the type of device and browser, and what is clicked, such as which questions are opened.
To count visits, PostHog creates an anonymous code from your IP address, your browser and the date. That code changes every day and your IP address is not stored. So we can’t recognize you, not even from one day to the next. PostHog processes this data for us as a processor. We do this based on our legitimate interest in improving the website, and keep the statistics for as long as they are useful for that.
If your browser sends a signal not to be tracked (Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control), we don’t count you. You can also turn it off yourself:
The website is served through Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect it. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
If you email us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply. We keep your email as long as needed for your question and delete it on request.
Children
Sudder is made for families and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights and deleting your data
Because we hold no data about you, you’re in control. Delete your data by removing Sudder and deleting Sudder’s data in iCloud under Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage. If you emailed us and want that email deleted, let us know.
If you have a complaint, you can contact the Belgian Data Protection Authority or the authority in your own country.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If Sudder ever starts collecting data, we’ll ask you first in the app.
